01. About Chaski

Chaski is a 100% virtual publication which includes small articles related to Hispanic culture, literature and linguistics, as well as to the teaching of Spanish as a second language.

We want students to have the opportunity to share their work with a wider public, so their intellectual contributions go beyond the classroom. We also want to provide a platform for those engaged in literary creation.

We welcome contributions in Spanish, French, English and indigenous languages.

02. Editorial guidelines

Chaski has three distinct sections, each with the following minimum guidelines:

  • Contributions length: between 800 and 1000 words.

Space for Analysis

  • Essays or analyses (cinematographic, literary, linguistic, etc.).
  • Contributions length: between 2000 and 4000 words.

Creative Circle

  • Poems, short stories, or other literary genres.
  • Contributions length: up to 2500 words.

  1. Contributions must be sent in Word to the following address: chaski.revista@gmail.com.
  2. Contributions should be submitted in Spanish, French, English, or any indigenous American language with the corresponding translation into one of the three other languages mentioned above.
  3. The following information must be found at the beginning of each text:
    1. Title;
    2. author’s name;
    3. author’s academic affiliation (if applicable);
    4. a very brief summary (one powerful sentence) of what is contained in the contribution.
  4. Contributions should preferably be submitted in Arial 12 size font, double-spaced.
  5. All quotations and references should follow the MLA 8th edition style:

    2. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/owl_en_espanol/estilo_MLA/mla_citaciones_en_texto_lo_basico.html
  6. Notes will be at the end of the text, not footnotes.

03. Publication process and selection criteria

Contributions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Adequacy with the general guidelines indicated above
  • Pertinence of the subject matter
  • Originality
  • Overall writing quality and consistency of ideas

Both essayistic and creative texts must not have been previously published in other media. Papers written within the framework of an academic course will be gladly accepted.

Since the purpose of the publication is the diffusion of a wide range of ideas in a flexible and diverse format, contributions will not be submitted to any scientific committee.

However, to ensure a certain conformity among the publications, the works received will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee and, if deemed appropriate, by a designated member of a Student Readership Committee.

Authors will therefore be able to receive feedback from colleagues and benefit from their suggestions, so the publication process will also have a collaborative and educational value.

Students wishing to submit a paper done within the framework of an academic course are encouraged to consult with their professor, who will be able to provide excellent feedback beforehand.

Thank you for sharing your ideas with Chaski! This publication could not exist without the students and contributors who support and nurture it: we look forward to your contributions!

Sincerely yours,

The editorial committee
